Foreign Currency Trading: Is the idea similar to stock trading?

so i am going to europe this week, june 11.
the dollar-to-euro is very high now, 1.19 to 1 euro
if i purchase lets say 00 USD of euros, then not sell it til…next year, will i have earned money? (assuming the euro goes up?)
ok – i just wanted to make sure that was the case….
although USD to 1 Euro? absurd!!!
